A 50-something year old white woman arrived at her seat and saw that the passenger next to her was a black man. Visibly furious, she called the air hostess.

"What's the problem, ma?" the hostess asked her
"Can't you see?" the lady said - "I was given a seat next to a black man. I can't seat here next to him. You have to change my seat"

- "Please, calm down, ma" - said the hostess
"Unfortunately, all the seats are occupied, but I'm still going to check if we have any."

The hostess left and returned some minutes later.

"Madam, as I told you, there isn't any empty seat in this class- economy class.
But I spoke to the captain and he confirmed that there isn't any empty seats in the economy class. We only have seats in the first class."

And before the woman said anything, the hostess continued

"Look, it is unusual for our company to allow a passenger from the economy class change to the first class.
However, given the circumstances, the commandant thinks that it would be a scandal to make a passenger travel sat next to an unpleasant person."

And turning to the black man, the hostess said:

"Which means, Sir, if you would be so nice to pack your handbag, we have reserved you a seat in the first class..."

And all the passengers nearby, who were shocked to see the scene started applauding, some standing on their feet.

OLYMPUS MORP 2012: Rockstars!

I had so much fun with some of my favorite chicas at MORP!  We went to dinner at Apollo Burger, danced it up like nobody's business, and then chatted as we drove through the city!  No drama.  No boys.  Only problem of the evening was Kaycee's thigh high boots nearly killing her.  But man, Did she look sexy!

Let's Go Ding Dong Ditching!

I had the best time with my siblings last weekend as my parents were out of the country.  When asking what we should do for fun, my sister responded, "Let's go ding dong ditching!"  Although that seemed like a great option, we ended up dancing in the rain instead.  I love my family.

Humans.

Humans are the most unnatural things.  When winter comes, the Earth sleeps.  It is covered by sheets of snow and is told to stay asleep until the time to awake arrives in spring.  Bears understand this sense of nature and sleep all winter, but for some reason us humans have yet to discover this.  Maybe someday we will realize we are not right about everything...

In A World...

In a world where evil is portrayed as good and good as evil, sometimes it is difficult to know the truth. In some ways it is almost like Little Red Riding Hood’s dilemma: when you are not quite sure what you are seeing, is it a beloved grandmother or is it a dangerous wolf?

Trial Is Part of the Journey

For a moment, think back about your favorite fairy tale. In that story the main character may be a princess or a peasant; she might be a mermaid or a milkmaid, a ruler or a servant. You will find one thing all have in common: they must overcome adversity.

Cinderella has to endure her wicked stepmother and evil stepsisters. She is compelled to suffer long hours of servitude and ridicule.

In “Beauty and the Beast,” Belle becomes a captive to a frightful-looking beast in order to save her father. She sacrifices her home and family, all she holds dear, to spend several months in the beast’s castle.

In the tale “Rumpelstiltskin,” a poor miller promises the king that his daughter can spin straw into gold. The king immediately sends for her and locks her in a room with a mound of straw and a spinning wheel. Later in the story she faces the danger of losing her firstborn child unless she can guess the name of the magical creature who helped her in this impossible task.

In each of these stories, Cinderella, Belle, and the miller’s daughter have to experience sadness and trial before they can reach their “happily ever after.” Think about it. Has there ever been a person who did not have to go through his or her own dark valley of temptation, trial, and sorrow?

Sandwiched between their “once upon a time” and “happily ever after,” they all had to experience great adversity. Why must all experience sadness and tragedy? Why could we not simply live in bliss and peace, each day filled with wonder, joy, and love?

The scriptures tell us there must be opposition in all things, for without it we could not discern the sweet from the bitter. ² Would the marathon runner feel the triumph of finishing the race had she not felt the pain of the hours of pushing against her limits? Would the pianist feel the joy of mastering an intricate sonata without the painstaking hours of practice?

In stories, as in life, adversity teaches us things we cannot learn otherwise. Adversity helps to develop a depth of character that comes in no other way. Our loving Heavenly Father has set us in a world filled with challenges and trials so that we, through opposition, can learn wisdom, become stronger, and experience joy.

My dear young sisters, you need to know that you will experience your own adversity. None is exempt. You will suffer, be tempted, and make mistakes. You will learn for yourself what every heroine has learned: through overcoming challenges come growth and strength.

It is your reaction to adversity, not the adversity itself, that determines how your life’s story will develop.

Your Happily Ever After

Over the years I have been exposed to many beautiful languages—each of them is fascinating and remarkable; each has its particular charm. But as different as these languages can be, they often have things in common. For example, in most languages there exists a phrase as magical and full of promise as perhaps any in the world. That phrase is “Once upon a time.”

Aren’t those wonderful words to begin a story? “Once upon a time” promises something: a story of adventure and romance, a story of princesses and princes. It may include tales of courage, hope, and everlasting love. In many of these stories, nice overcomes mean and good overcomes evil. But perhaps most of all, I love it when we turn to the last page and our eyes reach the final lines and we see the enchanting words “And they lived happily ever after.”

Isn’t that what we all desire: to be the heroes and heroines of our own stories; to triumph over adversity; to experience life in all its beauty; and, in the end, to live happily ever after?

Today I want to draw your attention to something very significant, very extraordinary. On the first page of your Young Women Personal Progressbook, you will find these words: “You are a beloved daughter of Heavenly Father, prepared to come to the earth at this particular time for a sacred and glorious purpose.” ¹

Sisters, those words are true! They are not made up in a fairy tale! Isn’t it remarkable to know that our eternal Heavenly Father knows you, hears you, watches over you, and loves you with an infinite love? In fact, His love for you is so great that He has granted you this earthly life as a precious gift of “once upon a time,” complete with your own true story of adventure, trial, and opportunities for greatness, nobility, courage, and love. And, most glorious of all, He offers you a gift beyond price and comprehension. Heavenly Father offers to you the greatest gift of all—eternal life—and the opportunity and infinite blessing of your own “happily ever after.”

This Is Your Own Book.

In life, you're the author of your own book.  When writing in pen, it doesn't always come out so easily.  When you make a mistake, you can't just erase it and pretend as if nothing happened.  You can always try to cover it up with white out, but it's still there.  Just turn the page over and have a fresh start, but remember your mistakes from before.  This is the time to make things right.

That Awkward Moment When Everything is Just Super Awkward...

For example:

• When neither person is willing to talk to the other, but you both know that both of you want to talk.
• When someone thinks they have a chance with you, but they definitely do not.
• When you think someone is going to say they like you, but end up turning it completely upside down and then walking across it to make is a gross horrible no good subject.
• When the football coach tries to introduce you to boys, but you have no idea who any of the "star tackles" are.
• When you look at someone and then they suddenly look at you too or when somebody is looking at you and then you look at them too, but neither of you are brave enough to do anything about it except to look the other way and think of everything you coulda, shoulda, woulda done

Just a Kiss.

Recently, I was asked by someone "Why do you like kissing so much?". This made me begin to think about kissing and really why I like it so much.  It is simply just touching another's lips.  Then, the thought of "The Princess and the Frog" came into mind. One kiss can change everything whether it is a friendship, a decision, or a future.  One kiss can change two people's lives forever.  When you kiss someone, it is like saying, "I want you.  All your flaws, mistakes, smiles, giggles, jokes, sarcasm.  Everything.  I just want you."  Kissing is able to get two people so close together that they can't see anything wrong with the other.  It is the perfect place to be no matter where you are in the world because nothing else matters.

The great Dr. Seuss stated, "Don't cry because it's over.  Smile because it happened."  I must take this into hand when I feel like I want to cry because I know I should be finished with you.  I need to smile at all the happiness put in my life from you.  I wish I was brave enough to tell you the truth, but I know you do not feel the same way so it is no longer relevant.  I was told whenever in doubt to ask myself, "Will this matter in a year from now?" and I want to say, "No.  It won't.", but you have had such an impact in my life that I do not think I will forget you in a year from now when we are separated on two different paths.  Right now, I have that feeling in my stomach where I just want to scream my head off and hope that eventually you will hear me.  Do you not see me or the way I treat you?  Oh yes, the past can hurt.  But, you can either run from it or, learn from it.  I am hoping to learn from my past as we part our separate ways.  I hope to learn not to waste my time with someone hoping for something to happen.  Maybe, someday, you will understand the thoughts that run through my mind towards you, but for some reason I do not think that will ever happen.

The Doppelgänger

Last night, I had a dream that I saw your face.  It looked the same as three months ago when you greeted me with big smiles and we were the best of friends.  Your face looked without any drama or hatred like I saw filling your soul the last time we talked.  In this dream, we embraced in a hug while talking and reminiscing.  We explained to one another how much we had missed the other since the outward war had begun which seemed so ridiculous now.  We began to cry as we thought about everything we had missed and how much we depended on one another for happiness.  Nothing could stop our friendship because the only one who could hurt us was us.  Everything was exactly how I remembered.  Everything was the same as it was three long months ago.  Everything was perfect.  Then I woke up.

A doppelgänger is a ghostly double of a living person that haunts its living counterpart.  It is German for a "double walker".  I met my doppelgänger this past summer, but ignored the idea of her coming into my life.  Then, as if it was meant for us to meet again, she showed up in my life a second time.  We immediately connected and I have never felt so close to someone in my life.  Over such a short time of a few weeks, I trusted her with so much and depended on her as a best friend would as she did the same to me.  The idea of doppelgängers, though, is that once they meet, after sometime, one of the two must leave through death or disappearance and never come back.  Well, eventually some truths came out between us and our friendship disappeared.  Now, she has moved away far away from where I can even hear the stories of where her heart beat is taking her.  My doppelgänger has left and now only memories, dreams, and pictures remain.
The last time I saw you, it was as if you were only the stranger beside me.  I hope for your best and your happiness.  Every eleven eleven, I still make the wish I promised to you I would always make.  The wish you said you had never told anyone.  The wish you said that would make everything worth it.  Eventually, I know that wish will come true and all my nights of wishing for it for you will be worth it.  I hate to see someone like you with so much potential throw it all down the drain so please never give up.  You truly are amazing and if you ever need someone please know that my phone number remains the same and will always be willing to answer a phone call from you.  I can only hope someday you see this, if not... I still love you.
